I think it would be correct to charge the compilers of this magazine with a failure to be objective. But keep in mind that the Annual is a magazine devoted entirely to one team. It's targeted to Maple Leafs fans, since it's pretty safe to assume a Devils' fan won't really want 128 pages of in depth Leafs-only analysis. It's also explicitly marketed as a publication put together by fans; so there are few, if any pretensions to objectivity.

As for the "human eraser" stuff, your viewpoint is one way to look at it. On the other hand, I think it's fair to say - objectively, even - that most people who follow the Leafs closely were very excited by the impressive performance Schenn put in last year. For a 19 year old rookie to play anchor minutes in a primarily physical role (Luke didn't stick with the big club for his offensive skills), and for him to not only succeed but also impress suggests very strongly that he is a significant talent. Judging by the number of requests made by rival NHL GMs to include him in a trade, it would appear that Leafs fans are not alone in their positive assesment of his potential. The "human eraser" nicely captures that excitement about the future, if you ask me.

Thanks for stopping by and leaving evidence behind; that is always encouraged.

I have nothing against the Leafs and with all due respect to everyone who beavered away to put together that publication, the "human eraser" fantasy embodies all that is wrong with rampant fanboyism and in this case Leafs cheerleading. A 2nd year defensive defenseman hyped as "the human eraser". It is nothing short of embarrassing. Does anyone ever take off the fan jersey and stop to think for a moment how it might appear to a more neutral observer? I can see how calling a dominant 10-year veteran, a cup winning stud, someone like Scott Stevens, a "human eraser" could be "cool", but a kid who has competed in the league for one year? It's just sad.

[...] I would love to write all kinds of witty stuff now about that, but I need to spend some quality time with the articles. More on the content later. Incidentally, you can learn more about how to get your own life-affirming, magical and money-generating copy by clicking on the little picture of the magazine cover in the upper left corner of the site.
WAT? What magical powers have you used, Mr. Brownscombe, to...uh....get access to my computer, doctor the photo and insert a hockey stick in OLAS' left hand...?

He's a witch!! Burn him!!!

Also, I notice you DIDN'T deny the existence of the production wrap cocktail party. Which is the same as confirming it, right?

Take a second look at Schenn's left hand.

P.S. thanks for the post
