Wow. That was F*#$ing Excellent. I have always cringed at the sight or sound of the term.

As for an alternate name, how about just the Blue and White. Sure, it’s another term for the team itself, and that’s exactly the point.

I’m a little late getting to this one, having been on vacation and mostly away from a computer (need a break every once in a while to get out in the sunshine and smell the roses, right?)

Anyway, having read this, I can only respond by saying, bravo good sir. I heartily approve. This calls for one of those emotional slow clap scenes you see in the movies every now and then.

@Kats: if the fans don’t use it and don’t like it, MLSE will learn to drop it too. Point it out to them. When they email you and address you as “Leaf Nation”, tell them you disagree. Email them a link to my post if you like. They’ll learn soon enough.

I can’t believe I missed this for the body of the post, but there’s apparently also a Tony Stewart Nation. Frickin’ NASCAR!

Good grief, if there was any doubt, that has to seal the fate of “Leafs Nation”, doesn’t it?

If we were to call ourselves the Bloc MapleLeafoise maybe we could get Stephen Harper to straighten out for us whether we were a nation, a nation within a nation, a nation with special status within a nation or merely a bad idea with funny accents and bad haircuts. And we could recycyle all the Wellwood-is-fat jokes as Harper jokes.

@mf37: “Leaf fans” is still generic. We deserve our own collective noun. The major failing of this post, in my opinion, is that I haven’t got the faintest clue right now what that collective noun should be.
