{"id":1195,"date":"2009-12-07T23:23:57","date_gmt":"2009-12-08T03:23:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/heroesinrehab.ca\/blog\/?p=1195"},"modified":"2009-12-07T23:25:06","modified_gmt":"2009-12-08T03:25:06","slug":"its-windsor-ontario-vs-the-world","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/heroesinrehab.ca\/blog\/2009\/12\/07\/its-windsor-ontario-vs-the-world\/","title":{"rendered":"It&#8217;s Windsor, Ontario vs. The World"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I know, I know, I just took the trouble yesterday to tell you I probably won&#8217; t be blogging for a little bit, and now here I am.\u00a0 What can I tell you, I&#8217;m in a good mood after the Leafs shellacked the Atlanta Thrashers tonight.\u00a0 Positively giddy because of a five-goal second period outburst, I logged on to the computer for a moment to hang out in the post-game thread over at <a title=\"PPP, Chemmy, blurr, Mattblack, LD, Wrap and the gang.  Sounds a bit like a 70's &quot;travelling band&quot; sitcom.\" href=\"http:\/\/www.pensionplanpuppets.com\" target=\"_blank\">Pension Plan Puppets<\/a>.\u00a0\u00a0 Okay, truth be told, Chemmy had promised (threatened?) to tell a really off colour story, and I was unable to turn away&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Anyway, in the process, I got a <a title=\"Thanks for the heads up!!\" href=\"http:\/\/heroesinrehab.ca\/blog\/2009\/12\/06\/please-stand-by\/comment-page-1\/#comment-1833\" target=\"_blank\">hot tip tonight<\/a> about the rosters for the upcoming <a title=\"2010 World Junior Hockey Championships\" href=\"http:\/\/hockeycanada.ca\/index.php\/ci_id\/25001\/la_id\/1.htm\" target=\"_blank\">World Junior Hockey Championships<\/a>.\u00a0 The U.S. and Canada recently announced the players that will be invited to audition for spots on their respective teams.\u00a0 The DEFENDING MEMORIAL CUP CHAMPION Windsor Spitfires will be well represented at these camps.\u00a0 Four Spits have been invited to try out for team Canada:\u00a0 forwards Taylor Hall [you may have heard of him,\u00a0 I think he&#8217;s draft eligible this year or something], Greg Nemisz [Calgary] and Adam Henrique [New Jersey] and Ryan Ellis [Nashville].\u00a0 That means that four of the thirty-six players invited to camp will be carrying Spitfire equipment bags (and a little bit of Memorial Cup bling) into the room.\u00a0 Oh yeah;\u00a0 Hall and Ellis may bring along their 2009 World Junior Gold Medals for good measure.<\/p>\n<p>Two other Spitfire players have been invited to camp for Team U.S.A. &#8211; defenceman Cam Fowler and goalie Jack Campbell.<\/p>\n<p>Oh, and forward Richard Panik is expected to play for Slovakia, as well.<\/p>\n<p>All told, that&#8217;s SEVEN current Spitfires that will be vying for ice time at the upcoming World Juniors.\u00a0 If that doesn&#8217;t tell you that this team has a real shot at the unheard of &#8211; repeating as Memorial Cup Champions &#8211; I don&#8217;t know what could.<\/p>\n<p>Keep in mind, too, that there are others on the team who <em>could <\/em>have been chosen.\u00a0 According to a <a title=\"Go Spits Go!  That's a hell of a team.\" href=\"http:\/\/www.windsorstar.com\/sports\/Four+Spits+invited+Canada+World+Junior+camp\/2295978\/story.html\" target=\"_blank\">recent Windsor Star article<\/a>, Leafs&#8217; prospect Kenny Ryan is said to be upset that he was not invited to Team U.S.A.&#8217;s camp, believing that his decision to bolt from Boston University and join the OHL Spitfires may have caused him to be passed over.<\/p>\n<p>It says here he&#8217;s not missing anything;\u00a0 Hall, Ellis, Nemisz and Henrique &#8211; along with a few other good Canadian lads &#8211; are gonna bring home the gold again from this tournament.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I know, I know, I just took the trouble yesterday to tell you I probably won&#8217; t be blogging for a little bit, and now here I am.
