{"id":574,"date":"2009-02-27T23:39:44","date_gmt":"2009-02-28T04:39:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/heroesinrehab.ca\/blog\/?p=574"},"modified":"2009-02-28T00:18:00","modified_gmt":"2009-02-28T05:18:00","slug":"blog-interrupted-explanatory-explanation-dept","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/heroesinrehab.ca\/blog\/2009\/02\/27\/blog-interrupted-explanatory-explanation-dept\/","title":{"rendered":"Blog Interrupted: Explanatory Explanation Dept."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Yes, yes, I know.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve been neglecting you for a few days.\u00a0 Aside from the occasional tale of nocturnal chaos, it&#8217;s been pretty slim pickin&#8217;s around here.<\/p>\n<p>As usual, it&#8217;s been busy , but I&#8217;m not going to rely on that old excuse for my postFAILage.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve been doing quite a bit of writing over the last week or so, just not for this site.\u00a0 For starters, I have finally completed the <a title=\"Celtx makes it look professional, even if it reads like Ishtar.\" href=\"http:\/\/heroesinrehab.ca\/blog\/2009\/01\/27\/in-the-kitchen-a-walk-on-the-wild-side\/\" target=\"_blank\">script I mentioned <\/a>some time ago.\u00a0 Tough slogging for me;\u00a0 not the kind of writing I&#8217;m used to doing at all &#8211; it needed to be informative and authentic, but youthful, was based primarily around dialog and I was pretty much completely unable to use any profanity &#8211; so I found it very difficult.\u00a0 Anyway, that&#8217;s one project finished (sort of*) which is something I am going to choose to be proud of, seeing as I am still laughably &#8220;working&#8221; away\u00a0at <a title=\"Might be NaNoReDec before I'm through\" href=\"http:\/\/heroesinrehab.ca\/blog\/tag\/nanoremo-2008\/\" target=\"_blank\">NaNoReMo 2008<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, I&#8217;ve been working on a piece about the NHL trade deadline and the reasonable expectations that Toronto Maple Leaf fans should have of their angry Irish overlord Mr. Burke over the next few days as the rebuild begins in earnest and &#8211; perhaps &#8211; various pieces of the team are dispersed across the continent in an effort to re-stock the MLSE cupboards.\u00a0 It&#8217;s not finished yet;\u00a0 I am hoping that a good night&#8217;s sleep, a hearty breakfast and a nice pot of tea will do the trick in that regard early tomorrow morning.\u00a0 I will post that as soon as I am finished;\u00a0 hopefully BEFORE the trade deadline actually passes&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve also been moved to put virtual pen to paper on a few occasions over at Leaf-fan uber-site <a title=\"Jammies and Sexypants will welcome you to discuss the Toronto Maple Leafs at Pension Plan Puppets\" href=\"http:\/\/www.pensionplanpuppets.com\" target=\"_blank\">Pension Plan Puppets<\/a>.\u00a0 It&#8217;s been a busy week over there;\u00a0 first, there was the return of Mats Sundin to the Air Canada Centre last Saturday night, an emotional evening for all Leafs fans and an event that\u00a0had us\u00a0<a title=\"DGB would boo Mats Sundin.  I say he's wrong to do that.\" href=\"http:\/\/www.pensionplanpuppets.com\/2009\/2\/21\/766970\/why-we-might-boo-mats-sund\" target=\"_blank\">strangely and bitterly\u00a0divided<\/a> about how to receive our former Captain.\u00a0 I spent quite a bit of time defending Sundin and encouraging anyone who would listen to take the longer view and give Mats his due when he stepped on the ice (and I&#8217;m pleased to report that Leafs fans chose to\u00a0do exactly that when Sundin\u00a0was feted with a tribute video at the first TV timeout during that game.\u00a0 Then there was the whole\u00a0\u00a0<a title=\"Down Goes Brown breaks the Internet by &quot;impersonating&quot; Brian Burke, General Manager of the Leafs\" href=\"http:\/\/www.downgoesbrown.com\/2009\/02\/brian-burke-twitter.html\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;Brian Burke&#8221; controversy<\/a>,\u00a0during which <a title=\"Sean - it pains me to say this - is a bigger Wendel Clark fan than even I am.\" href=\"http:\/\/www.downgoesbrown.com\" target=\"_blank\">Down Goes Brown<\/a> nearly broke the Internets by continuing to <a title=\"Read all the Burke tweets here.  They're funny.\" href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/brianburke\" target=\"_blank\">tweet as &#8220;Brian Burke&#8221;<\/a>, making humourous and insulting observations about various people around the NHL in a <em>tour de force<\/em> of parody;\u00a0 the problem was that <a title=\"Oh, brother.  Shoalts misses the boat.\" href=\"http:\/\/www.theglobeandmail.com\/servlet\/story\/RTGAM.20090222.WBhockeyblog20090222222440\/WBStory\/WBhockeyblog\" target=\"_blank\">some people didn&#8217;t get the point of the joke<\/a> and couldn&#8217;t find their ass with a map and a flashlight, never mind grasp the nature of DGB&#8217;s jest.\u00a0 There were also three game threads to enjoy in the virtual company of my homies the Triple P peeps.\u00a0 The last of these games &#8211; versus the Islanders on Thursday night &#8211; also produced the <a title=\"Brendan Witt tries to assassinate Niklas Hagman.\" href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=gZs7cyT6o9I\" target=\"_blank\">outrageous Brendan Witt elbow to Niklas Hagman&#8217;s head<\/a>.\u00a0\u00a0 I wrote a quick piece last night (posted at PPP) <a title=\"Brendan Witt: How it Should Be\" href=\"http:\/\/www.pensionplanpuppets.com\/2009\/2\/26\/773709\/how-it-should-be\" target=\"_blank\">about the usefulness of the Tie Domi\/Scott Niedermayer\u00a0incident<\/a> in the 2001 playoffs as a useful comparator for measuring the appropriate suspension that Leafs fans were sure had to inevitably be coming.<\/p>\n<p>Although the <a title=\"The memo says we're cracking down, quoth the NHL re: head shots\" href=\"http:\/\/msn.foxsports.com\/nhl\/story\/8817666\/NHL-getting-serious-on-hits-to-the-head?CMP=OTC-K9B140813162&amp;ATT=142\" target=\"_blank\">NHL maintains that it is cracking down on\u00a0disgraceful and gratuitous <\/a>cheap shots like this, the kind that endangers the health and safety of the players that put the bread on\u00a0the\u00a0suits&#8217; feasting table, there was nary a mention of this incident in the press coverage early this morning.\u00a0 What mention\u00a0there was in the papers\u00a0was only as\u00a0necessarily incidental to explaining how it came to pass that both the Leafs and Isles scored in the course of a major penalty imposed upon Witt in the 3rd period.\u00a0 In fact, there was virtually no discussion of the incident at all until after the NHL imposed &#8211; in its infinite wisdom &#8211; a 5 game suspension on Witt.<\/p>\n<p>I spent much of this evening <a title=\"Brendan Witt: Five for Fighting and a Gross Misconduct\" href=\"http:\/\/www.pensionplanpuppets.com\/2009\/2\/27\/774900\/brendan-witt-five-for-figh\" target=\"_blank\">writing about this last decision<\/a>;\u00a0 as it happens, Witt will serve his suspension just in time to return for the rematch festivities in Toronto on March 10th.\u00a0 I refuse to believe this is a mere coincidence, and I am appalled by the league&#8217;s ridiculous decision to arrange things so as to enable Witt to play in this game.\u00a0\u00a0 That, as they say, has put the cat among the pigeons indeed.<\/p>\n<p>&#8212;&#8212;-<\/p>\n<p>*of course, there&#8217;s the inevitable re-write to do now.\u00a0 And filming.\u00a0 And editing.\u00a0 So&#8230;..more projects.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Yes, yes, I know.
